Asthma Treatment

Asthma Treatment That Fits Your Life

Asthma affects everyone differently, so we build a plan around you. Because asthma is a long-term condition, it needs ongoing care. Our goal is to keep your symptoms under control so you can work, play, exercise, and sleep without asthma getting in the way. We treat children and adults at our Commerce Township and Mount Clemens offices.

Treatment Options

Inhaled Medicines

Most asthma treatment uses inhalers. Controller inhalers are taken every day to calm airway inflammation and prevent symptoms. Rescue inhalers work quickly to open your airways during a flare. Some inhalers do both. We show you how to use your inhaler correctly, including a spacer for children, so the medicine reaches your lungs.

Biologic Therapy

Biologics are newer medicines for severe asthma that isn’t well controlled with inhalers alone. They target specific parts of the immune response that cause airway inflammation. Biologics are given by injection every few weeks and can reduce asthma attacks and the need for oral steroids. We’ll check whether you’re a good candidate.

Environmental Control

Reducing your exposure to triggers can make a real difference. We help you identify what sets off your asthma and give you practical steps to limit it, from allergen control at home to avoiding smoke and other irritants. If allergies play a role, allergy shots or tablets may also help.

Asthma Action Plans

We create a written asthma action plan with you. It explains which medicines to take each day, how to spot a flare early, what to do when symptoms get worse, and when to get emergency care. We can provide a copy for your child’s school or daycare.

Signs Your Asthma Is Not Well Controlled

  • You use your rescue inhaler more than two days a week
  • You wake up at night with asthma symptoms
  • You have cut back on exercise or daily activities because of your breathing
  • You have needed oral steroids or an emergency visit for asthma

If any of these sound familiar, it’s time for a visit. Your treatment may need an adjustment.

Ongoing Asthma Care

Regular follow-up visits help us check your breathing, review your symptoms, and adjust your medicine. When your asthma is well controlled, we may be able to lower your dose. We also work with your primary care provider and other doctors to keep your care connected.
