Immune Deficiency Treatment
Treatment to Help You Stay Healthy
Treatment for an immune deficiency focuses on preventing infections, treating them quickly when they happen, and helping you live a full, active life. Your plan depends on your diagnosis and how your immune system is affected. We care for children and adults at our Commerce Township and Mount Clemens offices.
Treatment Options
Immunoglobulin Replacement Therapy (IVIG and SCIG)
If your body doesn’t make enough working antibodies, immunoglobulin replacement gives you antibodies collected from healthy donors. This treatment can lower how often you get infections and how serious they are. There are two ways to receive it:
- IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin) is given through a vein, usually every three to four weeks.
- SCIG (subcutaneous immunoglobulin) is given under the skin, usually every week or two, and can often be done at home after training.
We help you choose the option that fits your health, your schedule, and your preferences.
Preventing Infections
- Keeping vaccines up to date, as recommended for your condition
- Preventive antibiotics for some patients
- Everyday habits that lower your risk, such as regular handwashing
Treating Infections Early
We help you make a plan for what to do when you start to feel sick, so infections are treated quickly and are less likely to become serious.
Managing Related Conditions
Allergies, asthma, and chronic sinusitis are common in people with an immune deficiency. Treating them can mean fewer infections and easier breathing. Learn about our care for allergies, asthma, and sinusitis.
Ongoing Care
Most immune deficiencies are long term. Regular visits let us check your antibody levels, watch for infections, and adjust your treatment as needed. We work closely with your primary care provider and other specialists to keep your care connected.
